Hi, there! I’m Kathleen A. Kelly. I launched Gray Bevins Editorial to work directly with scholars, independent authors, academic journals, and book publishers in developing their book- and journal-length projects into publishable manuscripts. As an English editing firm, Gray Bevins aims to preserve an author’s voice and underlying message while revising the more technical and organizational aspects of an author’s writing.
I’ve worked as an acquisitions editor, content consultant, copyeditor, and Spanish-to-English translator for higher education and K-12 publishers, including such presses as Oxford University Press. I serve clients in the humanities and social sciences, including anthropology, American studies, creative writing (fiction, creative nonfiction and memoir, and poetry), gender and sexuality studies, history, Latinx studies, literary studies, Middle East studies, sociology, and art and visual studies.

I studied PhD coursework in literature and gender studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz. I hold an MA in history and a BA in Spanish and European studies. As a former university press acquisitions editor and an independent publishing consultant, I have extensive experience with the peer review process at university presses and academic journals.
